Welcome to our 2021-2026 Regulatory Proposal Page
On 31 January 2020, we submitted our 2021-2026 Regulatory Proposal for Jemena's Electricity Network (JEN) to the Australian Energy Regulator (AER). The proposal was compiled following extensive feedback from more than 80 hours of JEN customer engagement over a two year period.
This submission is pending review by the AER so may be subject to change once feedback is received.
What would you like to do?
Proposal highlights
Our proposal aims to keep energy affordable while maintaining reliability, safety, and preparing the network for the future.
We are proposing cutting network charges for our residential customers by $320 over the upcoming plan period and an average of $739 for our small businesses customers, with a call to energy retailers to pass these savings on to customers in full.
The proposal also includes a number of improvements and initiatives to prepare our network for the future, including:
Connecting over 30,000 new residential customers and 1,300 business customers
Replacing or re-enforcing over 7,300 electricity poles
Providing over 65 MW of new renewable energy generation with a platform to export
Adding 50 MWh of new battery storage capacity to the grid
Investing in new technology to prepare the network for the future
Enabling the connection of more renewable energy sources for a more sustainable future
We are also looking to keep our capital expenditure in line with our historical average, while stillmaintaining a reliable network. This is in line with feedback we received from our residential customers throughout our customer engagement program.
Not only did we listen to what our customers wanted, we adopted each of their final 25 recommendations, and with such strong customer endorsement, we trust the AER will approve our proposal in full.

'2019 Customer Engagement Award' winners!
We are so pleased to announce that Jemena's Electricity Network took home the '2019 Energy Networks Consumer Engagement Award' in recognition of our collaborative engagement with our People's Panel in the lead up to submitting our latest Regulatory Proposal.
To view our entry, along with a variety of initiatives from other organisations that are helping deliver a smarter grid to support the energy transformation and benefit consumers, click here.
Background
Jemena manages the electricity grid that powers over 330,000 customers in Melbourne's north and west.
We are part of a broader energy supply chain that spans electricity production to retailing, and our charges make up around 35% of a typical residential customer’s electricity bill.
Our 2021-2026 Regulatory Proposal is a summary of what we have learned from our customers, and how we have taken their feedback and built a strategy for our network.
